An annual review of the companies with the best reputations.
Hollywood has the Oscars, athletes have the Olympics, and journalists have the Pulitzers.
To celebrate their reputation, companies enjoy no such ceremony, of course.
But our annual Trust & Like Score rankings come pretty close.
Based on tens of thousands of unique ratings gathered throughout the year, our rankings are a definitive measure of corporate reputation.
There is, after all, ample proof that stakeholder behavior is linked to the degree to which people trust and like a company.
And that makes the Trust & Like Score our chief metric for determining the strength of a company’s brand and reputation.
Below, we reveal which companies had the highest Trust & Like Score in 2023 in four major markets — France, Germany, the UK and the US.
Though we can’t hand out trophies — at least not yet — these companies should still be considered the crême de là crême of corporate reputation.
The 3 Most Trusted & Liked Companies on the Fortune 500 list in 2023 🚀
Amazon has the best corporate reputation among the top 50 companies in the Fortune 500.
Despite facing some reputation-related headwinds in 2023, the multinational tech company also generated plenty of goodwill with stakeholders, thanks to the expansion of its ultra-fast delivery options and online grocery shopping, the success of Amazon Prime Day and its best year on the stock market since 2015.
This year’s runner-up is drug wholesale company AmerisourceBergen — which changed its name to Cencora in August 2023.
The Pennsylvania-based company “partners with pharmaceutical companies and healthcare providers to facilitate access to the therapies people and animals need”, and handles about a fifth of all the pharmaceuticals sold and distributed throughout the US.
Third place this year goes to Costco Wholesale, the multinational corporation that operates a chain of “membership warehouse clubs” — big-box stores that offer members the best value on a wide range of merchandise.
Costco now has around 600 stores in the US, and its focus on customer satisfaction and commitment to fair wages and employee benefits both contribute to its strong reputation among stakeholders.
The 3 Most Trusted & Liked Companies on the FTSE 100 in 2023 🚀
RELX has the best corporate reputation among the top 50 companies on the FTSE100.
Previously known as Reed Elsevier, the company is a global provider of information-based analytics and decision tools for professional and business customers.
Its purpose is to benefit society by developing products that, for instance, help researchers advance scientific knowledge, businesses and governments prevent fraud, and customers learn about markets and complete transactions.
Multinational retail giant Tesco Corporation is the runner-up again.
Putting the customer at the heart of everything it does saw the grocer lower the price of 2,500 items in the first six months of the year, by an average of 12%.
The UK’s largest retailer continues to build sustainability into its “purpose, strategy and business plans” and also distinguishes itself through its commitment to community engagement.
Third place goes to Ashtead Group, an international equipment rental company that operates mainly in the UK, the US and Canada.
The London-headquartered company primarily rents construction and industrial equipment such as cranes and forklift trucks.
Its watchwords are availability, reliability and ease, and it now has ESG as an actionable component of its corporate strategy.
The 3 Most Trusted & Liked Companies on the DAX 40 in 2023 🚀
For the second year running, Adidas has the best corporate reputation among companies listed on Germany’s DAX 40 index.
The athletic apparel and footwear giant continues to impress stakeholders with its commitment to innovation and sustainability, its emphasis on diversity and inclusivity, and its development of cutting-edge products.
Second place goes to Siemens Healthineers, a global provider of healthcare equipment, solutions and services.
Its commitment to “pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in healthcare to help improve people’s lives around the world”, to improving access to healthcare for underserved communities and to overcoming the most threatening diseases has helped strengthen its corporate reputation.
The world’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, Daimler Truck AG, takes third spot this year.
The company’s commitment to shaping the future of transportation, its focus on sustainability and innovation, and its emphasis on providing customers with the “best possible support in their work” has doubtless resonated with stakeholders.
The 3 Most Trusted & Liked Companies on the CAC 40 in 2023 🚀
Legrand has the best corporate reputation among the companies listed on the CAC 40 index.
The Limoges-based company is “a global specialist in electrical and digital building infrastructures” whose purpose is to “improve life by transforming the spaces where people live, work and meet”.
Legrand has also demonstrated a commitment to sustainability, energy efficiency and environmental responsibility.
The runner-up once again is Airbus, the multinational aerospace company.
Besides being the world’s largest manufacturer of commercial airliners, the Toulouse-based company has successful divisions that make helicopters and products for defense and space.
Driven by its mission to “pioneer sustainable aerospace for a safe and united world”, Airbus has long been at the forefront of innovating new technologies, too.
Food-products giant Danone climbs the ranks to claim third place this year.
